Miami Carnival

The Miami Carnival, Miami’s Caribbean Mardi Gras is North America’s #1 Carnival. Held on Columbus Day weekend, the Miami Carnival is a day-long celebration that features live music and a West Indian-style parade. Entertainment at the Miami Carnival includes costumed mas bands, steel bands, soca music and DJs. Performers and other Miami Carnival participants compete for cash prizes and trophies in a variety of categories, such as the King and Queen of Carnival or the Band of the Year. Miami Carnival also brings plenty of Caribbean food and drink as well as an arts and crafts sale to downtown Miami.

A number of other events are held in conjunction with the Miami Carnival. They include the Miss Miami Carnival beauty pageant and a Kiddies Carnival, held one week prior to the Miami Carnival parade and festival.

The Miami Carnival was launched as a neighborhood festival in 1984, but quickly became an international sensation. Upon its incorporation in 1999, the Miami Carnival combined the Caribbean American Carnival with the Carnival Association of South Florida, both of which had sponsored carnivals on the same dates.

The Miami Carnival is the last stop on the annual Caribbean Carnival circuit, which begins in Trinidad & Tobago. The 2008 Miami Carnival is will be held on 10/01/08.
